🧠 CREDIT CARD STRATS/HACKS/TRICKS
Southwest Gives Your Money Back If You Ask

Negative $6? What’s going on here?

Many people like to wait until fare sales to book their flights. If you have the luxury of waiting, this makes sense for some airlines.

However, with Southwest, you don’t need to wait for sales.

Trick: Southwest allows you to change your flights with no fees - just pay the fare difference. Turns out if the fare is cheaper, you get a free refund, no questions asked.

What’s the catch? You have to care enough to bother checking the fares for your route after the fact and reprice your flight.

There used to be a service that sent automated alerts for your Southwest flights, but Southwest didn’t like this (duh) and shut them down.

If you like free money, here’s how to get it from Southwest:

  1. Log in to Southwest and check your upcoming trips

  2. Find the trip you want to change. The bottom right of the square will have a button that says “Change flight”

  3. Go through the flow and select the same flight details as your original flight

  4. Choose the repriced rate, which appears as negative dollars, aka a refund

  5. Take your savings and consider buying me a coffee 🙂

Every time there’s a Southwest sale (like right now as we mentioned in the above section), make sure to log in and see if your flight can be repriced.

Happy savings!

⏳️ FINAL BOARDING CALL - TIME-SENSITIVE
Southwest Plus Card Giving ~1-Year Companion Pass

The Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card has a limited-time offer for a Companion Pass + 30k bonus points after spending $4k in the first 3 months.

It’s a downgraded Companion Pass as the one you get by hitting the 125k SW points threshold is valid for up to 2 years (remainder of current year + all of the next year).

The 125k threshold is relatively easy to meet with a personal + business Southwest card, but if you’re too lazy or can’t be bothered, then this current ~1-year offer isn’t the worst.

In case you don’t know what Companion Pass is, it’s buy-one-get-one free (aka $5.60 fees) for your flights, which I wrote about here and here (strategy to get ~2 years).

Learn more about the card offer here. (direct)

Alaska has a sale on paid and award fares until the end of today, 02/08.

There are solid offers, such as 6.5k - 7.5k transcontinental flights, as well as Hawaii and Mexico.

If you’re sitting on a large stash of points, this is a good opportunity to use them up. Devaluations always happen out of nowhere, as with the Turkish example above.

American Airlines Business Class on Boeing 787

The newly designed seats were released in late 2022 and will finally go into service on select routes late this year.

I’ve been liking AA’s program more and more, especially since it’s one of the primary ways to book Japan Airlines’s gorgeous new flight products.

American Airlines Business Class on Boeing 787

As you can see from this photo, American Airlines configured the Boeing 787 in a “reverse herringbone” layout. Center seats are pointed inward toward each other, while aisle seats are pointed toward the window.

Above, we have a preview of a business-class seat on the Airbus A321XLR, which is a narrow-body plane.

These are arranged in a “herringbone” pattern, where the seats are pointed towards the aisles. You can tell in the below photo since the entertainment screens, which your feet usually go under, are closer to the aisle.

They’re also revamping the Premium Economy seats, which you can see here. I love my privacy so I’m a huge fan of the headrest wings.
