Southwest Biz 125k, Wyndham Cards, and Cheap Economy Awards

Estimated read time: 5 min 58 sec

Definitely a love-hate relationship with Southwest. It’ll be interesting to see how their BOGO flights work when they start charging for seat assignments.

Today’s in-flight entertainment:

🧠 CREDIT CARD STRATS/HACKS/TRICKS
2 Years of BOGO Southwest Flights with 1 Card - Expires 09/17

Offer details:

Southwest Performance Business Card

  • 80k points after $5k spend in first 3 months

  • 40k points after $15k total spend in first 9 months

  • Annual fee: $199

Southwest Premier Business Card

  • 60k points after $3k spend in first 3 months

  • 60k points after $15k total spend in first 9 months

  • Annual fee: $99

I can’t believe over a year has passed and this offer is back again. My in-depth breakdown on how to get BOGO flights with Southwest for ~2 years was written in July 2023.

With a single Southwest business credit card (120k SUB + 15k points from spend requirement), you generate 135k Southwest points and earn Southwest’s Companion Pass for:

  • the remainder of the year you earn it in

  • the entirety of the following year

If you frequent Southwest and are the type of person to plan ahead, you can turn 135k Southwest points into 20-40 domestic one-way flights + practically free flights ($5.60 taxes) for a companion.

Below is the proper timing to maximize this offer:

  1. Open the card by Sept 17

  2. Change your statement date to the 1st of the month

  3. Spend a little bit less than the first part of your bonus by November 30th, before Dec 1st statement closes

    • e.g. spend $2.9k for $3k spend requirement in first 3 months

  4. Spend the last $100 Dec 1 - 4, ensuring your points hit Jan 1st

  5. Spend the remaining $12k at your leisure

You want the first part of the bonus to hit Jan 1st because points count for the calendar year they’re earned in.

That’s ~2 years of BOGO flights with a single card!

⏳️ FINAL BOARDING CALL - TIME-SENSITIVE
Increased Wyndham Card Offers

Don’t be deceived by the “Earn X free nights” language on the landing page. With Wyndham points, you’re mostly looking at Vacasa vacation home redemptions. The best options will run you 30k per bedroom per night.

I wouldn’t burn 5/24 slots on the personal cards, but to each their own. Also keep in mind that Barclays should combine hard pulls on the same day, so consider applying for more than 1 Barclays (business) credit card.

Increased offers are as follows:

Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Card

  • 40k points after $4k spend in first 90 days

  • 40k points after $15k total spend in first 12 months

  • Wyndham Diamond status (to match to Caesars Diamond for Vegas)

  • Annual fee: $95

It’s not the highest offer (100k) but if you’re desperate for business cards because you have more manufactured spend than you know what to do with, this is a solid option.

Wyndham Rewards Earner Plus Card

  • 75k points after $2k spend in first 180 days

  • Wyndham Platinum status

  • Annual fee: $75

Wyndham Rewards Earner Card

  • 45k points after $2k spend in first 180 days

  • Wyndham Gold status

  • Annual fee: No annual fee

Between 09/13 and 09/17, Virgin Atlantic is offering 25% off economy award flights. Note that the 25% reduction is applied at time of booking, and all flights must be on or before 12/31.

United cardholders can book round-trip economy flights for 50k miles+ taxes and fees. Listed destinations:

  • Amsterdam (AMS): 50,000 miles plus $99.60 taxes & fees

  • Brussels (BRU): 50,000 miles plus $66.30 taxes & fees

  • Paris (CDG): 50,000 miles plus $90.20 taxes & fees

  • Frankfurt (FRA): 50,000 miles plus $155.40 taxes & fees

  • London (LHR): 50,000 miles plus $198.90 taxes & fees

Not the worst way to burn United miles if you accidentally built a stash. I’d figure out a way to avoid flying into the UK though due to the heightened fees.

Sam’s Club Membership For Cheap

Why does this matter? Great question.

For those trying to manufacture spend by reselling gift cards, Sam’s Club frequently has discounted deals that get you to breakeven or better. The membership cost more than pays for itself, especially when it’s this steeply discounted.
