Bilt Shutting Down OG Cards

Bad news was emailed to those of us with the old Bilt card issued by Evolve Bank & Trust.

Our cards are being shut down on 12/31.

To continue using Bilt, you must re-apply for the Bilt card issued by Wells Fargo. If you do so before 08/15, Bilt will add 10k bonus points to your account just for applying (regardless of approval). 

As usual, gamers gonna game. From Bilt’s short email alone, there are two important callouts:

1. Unfortunately, applying for the new Bilt card will take a 5/24 slot.

2. Fortunately, you’ll get the 10k bonus points for just applying. Freeze your credit reports and your application won’t go through. Will they claw back? 🤷 Transfer your points out and find out later.

With devaluations, the loss of AA as a transfer partner, and the inevitable evaporation of their VC bankroll, I no longer consider Bilt worth the 5/24 slot. You’re better off utilizing rent payments for minimum spend requirements (MSRs) for other cards with valuable sign-up bonuses (SUBs) and eating the 2.9% cost.

Turkish Airlines 40k SUB

Offer details:

While the card and offer aren’t things to write home about, it’s interesting to note that First Electronic Bank issues the card.

It’s not a credit card issuer we frequently see meaning there may be some under-the-radar plays to be made. If anyone is going to test, please let me know.
